James Pollock

James Pollock abstract
Well before the video if he was in this classroom talking to me I would not have any idea who he was. I have never heard of him before today. I didn’t even know he was a famous artist. But now having seen the video I feel that he is a very self centered man. It was obvious that he was only into doing things for himself. After seeing the film I do not think that helped me to understand his work. All it looked like was him making splotches on a canvas. Some of his later pieces did look like more than just splotches but not the beginning ones.
He made art for common people seem easy. He made it look like it there was nothing to art and all you had to do was throw paint at a canvas. He had both a positive and a negative affect on society. Some people loved his work while others hated it. He had such an effect that some people tried to copy his work some other people that have had an effect on art would be people like Michelangelo and Picasso. Which Lee his wife thought he was the next.
This painting is very abstract. Not just the painting, but the guy standing there observing it. You can tell its and older man who probably just got of work needed some alone time after the stressful day to just think. Because he didn’t want people to see his expression. He wanted us to guess the mans expression. Make a story for the picture ourselves. Because this is abstract in its own way.
